Geelong Botanic Gardens
Geelong & Bellarine Peninsula
For more than 150 years the Geelong Botanic Gardens have provided a sanctuary of green space in the centre of the city.
Nestled in Eastern Park a short stroll from the CBD and Waterfront Precincts, the gardens feature extensive plantings of native and exotic plants, expansive lawns and impressive trees – 36 of which are listed on the National Trust Register of Significant Trees.
There’s a rose garden lawn, large pelargonium display and fernery area. Since their beginning in 1851 the gardens have become home to some significant heritage assets too, with buildings, sculptures and fountains dating back to the 1800s. The original tiny Geelong customs house building from 1838 responsible for all goods in and out of the port is located in the garden.
The garden was extended in 2002 to include the 21st Century Garden at the entrance, an area dedicated to drought tolerant and low-water plants.
There is a teahouse on site that’s perfect for a drink, snack or light lunch while enjoying the tranquil surrounds. Stimulate the senses with the colours and scents of the amazing plant collection as you explore this renowned regional garden.
