Welcome to Werribee Open Range Zoo, only 30 minutes from the CBD. A visit to our Zoo isn’t complete without a safari through the savannah! Climb aboard our big bus, and be transported through the open plains of Asia, North America and Africa to learn about some of the world’s most endangered species and our own conservation efforts. This all-ages, wheelchair accessible tour includes commentary from a safari guide and comes free with your admission price.

Stroll through the African River Trail at your own speed, spotting lions, hippos, cheetahs, monkeys, gorillas and more. Stop for a bite or a barbeque, let the kids scamper in the playground, spot monkeys in the treetops, and learn all about our amazing animals at our daily presentations. You can also explore the beautiful outback and spot Eastern Grey kangaroos, emus, brolgas, Southern koalas and other native animals on our Australian Journey. Stroll through bush and grasslands along the banks of the Werribee River, learning about our unique ecosystem. You’ll see birds, reptiles, mammals and more, and pass the old Chirnside Woolshed. Just watch out for drop bears!

Slumber Safari – Immerse yourself into the world that is Werribee Open Range Zoo, with our unique all-inclusive Slumber Safari experience. Go behind the scenes and join the magnificent animals of the Zoo in an experience like no other. Enjoy two days of exclusive animal viewing opportunities, get up close and personal with an animal encounter and join us on a fully hosted dusk safari tour. Then kick back and take in the sunset with a glass of wine on your private deck, followed by an African-inspired dinner. Enjoy the rest of the night in your luxury lodge looking out across the open plains. Wake up to the sound of lions roaring and indulge in breakfast before the animal adventures continue.

Deluxe Safari Adventure – Meet rhinos, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and more as you travel across the zoo’s open plains with your own personal guide. Unlike the general Safari Bus, this tour will allow you to join us on a small group adventure where we can share stories of these amazing species, and maybe even get a closer look. With opportunities to stop, observe, ask questions, and capture the perfect photograph, it’s just like a true African safari!

Early Morning Savannah Tour – Have you ever wondered what goes on at the Zoo before it opens? Join us for an intimate morning tour with our Keepers as you get an exclusive glimpse into the lives of the amazing animals of the Savannah. Follow one of our Keeping teams on their morning round where you will get to help out with food prep, watch a training session, and more.
